Beyond the “Just War”: Cardinals Revisit Chapter V and Contrast the Civilisation of Love with the Culture of Power

The afternoon session of the Extraordinary Consistory, held at 4pm in the Paul VI Hall, centred on Chapter V of the encyclical Magnifica humanitas, “The Culture of Power and the Civilisation of Love”. Cardinal Pablo Virgilio Siongco David chaired the proceedings, which opened with a time of common prayer. The introductory address was given by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, who spoke as one of the authors of the document. Pope Leo attended the opening of the session and returned later for the plenary discussion.
