Silere non possum is an international news outlet, founded in 2021 at the initiative of Marco Felipe Perfetti, a journalist and analyst of the Catholic Church and Vatican expert, who in 2022 published the first code of criminal procedure of Vatican City State.
As the guiding motto for the project from the very beginning, Perfetti chose the words of Saint Giuseppe Moscati, which still appear prominently on the pages of this newspaper today: “Love the truth; show yourself as you are, without deceit, without fear, and without favoritism. And if the truth costs you persecution, accept it; and if it means torment, endure it. And if for the truth you must sacrifice yourself and your life, be strong in your sacrifice” - Autograph note by Giuseppe Moscati, 17 October 1922.
Over the years, Silere non possum has become a point of reference for Vatican reporting and, more broadly, for Catholic journalism, thanks to the rigour and reliability of its work. This outlet has brought numerous stories to light: the Enzo Bianchi case, exclusive documents on the pontificate of Pope Francis, the Rupnik case, Mauro Gambetti’s mismanagement in St Peter’s, and much else besides. Readers know they are dealing with a newspaper free from partisan preferences and from political or ecclesiastical affiliations: its journalists publish documents and offer grounded analysis, giving ample space to original sources and little to personal interpretation.
In Magnifica Humanitas, the first encyclical of Leo XIV, we read: “Christian communities, too, are called to commit themselves to transparency in communication and to the honest pursuit of facts. Sadly, this has not always been the case. We have witnessed with shame the emergence of painful truths concerning even members of the Church and ecclesial realities. In particular, some journalists, driven by a passion for truth, have played a crucial role in bringing injustices and abuses to light. To them, I wish to repeat the words that Pope Francis used in speaking to journalists: “I also thank you for what you tell us about what goes wrong in the Church, for helping us not to sweep it under the carpet, and for the voice you have given to the victims of abuse.” Yet vigilance and transparency remain first and foremost a grave responsibility for the Church herself, and we must not wait for others to compel us to confront uncomfortable truths about ourselves”.
This is what Silere non possum has always sought to do, and this is what it will continue to do.
